Athren had once again found himself on his ship in the gravity chamber, the chamber had been turned on and activated at seventy-five of Earth's gravity and the training dummy was also activated. Currently, the ship was flying through space and it was nearing Yardrat. There was roughly about a day before the ship had touched down. Through his travels in space, he had made the absolute best of it. Though the quiet times were rough on him given the recent loss he had. The nightmares tormented him, the pain of losing his children felt like a stake going through his heart, it was something that wouldn't stop until he had found himself distracted and motivated. Though the pain would never fully stop or fade away, there was ways to ease it and the gravity chamber was just the place. When his mind was set on accomplishing a task or he was training in order to prepare for Nmaek, he was free from the thoughts that lingered. The horrific images that stayed in his head from the day of his defeat, they had fallen to the background and the moment that he was in was the one that would take over. It was really the only thing he could do for himself now, there wasn't any other option to ease him.
The training was set, he had found himself in the middle of the gravity chamber with his weights on and the gravity trying to pull him down toward the ground. He was focused on nothing more than sparring with the dummy and improving upon his Nova Punch technique. This wouldn't be too difficult to take care of, all he really needed to do was amplify the power that he put into it. It really wasn't anything special. He knew he wouldn't have to focus much on the technique or stress about it, he would simply be able to improve it within the spar with the dummy.
Within a flash he had found the training dummy pressing him with an attack, a flurry of rapid punches and kicks had flown towards the demon-saiyan hybrid, though he kept his absolute cool given the circumstances, he was rather enjoying the moment even if there wasn't any threat. It was the only cure he could find to the pain he had been feeling, it had made him feel alive, calm and collected, focused on something other than the fate of his little ones. Athren's head would duck and move avoiding all the blows that had been aimed towards his face and when it came to the strikes aimed at his body, Athren would simply pivot and weave out of the way, there wasn't any need for blocking these attacks when he could simply just avoid them.
Even with his super heavy weights equipped and the gravity pressing down against him, his movements were still smooth and elegant. They hadn't been slowing him down or hindering him in the slightest, he was in his groove and actually having just a little bit of fun with avoiding the robot's attacks. Though as he dipped and weaved through the incoming blows, he couldn't help but wish that he had a better model, one that could fight him faster and harder, one that could actually provide him with a little bit more of a challenge than this. It provided him with some entertainment sure and gave him scenarios to evolve and grow his techniques too, but it didn't give him anything more than that. Even Celric could outclass this training dummy when he was living and he was just a boy.
Though Athren was training he refused to power up to maximum, he didn't need it to outclass the dummy and he wanted to drag this out and have some fun, he wanted to keep it interesting and stay in a somewhat similar state as the robot. Plus, Athren really didn't want to hit this thing as hard as he could as it was very likely that his training dummy would get destroyed after all Athren could destroy planets rather easily, how was a machine going to hold up against that kind of blunt force? Surely it didn't have a chance in hell in staying together in one piece, the force of Athren's powered-up punch would be enough to send parts of it all over the gravity chamber! He really didn't have the want or desire to clean up after a robot or cut his training short, after all this dummy provided him at least something and in this case, something was absolutely better than nothing at all.
Athren kept up playing the dodging game for now, continuing to keep himself moving rapidly and backing up around the room to let the robot chase him and try different tactics in order to keep things fresh and unique. Though time and time again, Athren would simply move away from the attack or slip under it, it was easy. He fully intended on keeping this up for a while, it was nice to be free of the thoughts in his head and only think about the attack coming his way and even if they weren't powerful or deadly, it was just like playing a game. He didn't know how long this would entertain him for but at least he was doing something other than idling around and thinking, he was getting his body moving and engaging in a little spar, it was probably the most fun he could have in his ship alone.
He'd much rather be down here anyway, this ship once had life to it and people roaming around, people to talk too and have fun with but now? It was dead and empty, no longer did anybody roam the halls of the Nova, or come to talk to him about what was next, it was him there alone to his thoughts and that might've been one of the worst parts to this whole scenario. It wasn't just his children that he had lost, but his entire crew, his lifestyle, everything. It all got erased within an instant, burned away to nothing. At least here in the gravity chamber, there was some form of interaction, even if the robot wasn't living it had provided with him something and he'd take that. The added bonus of getting stronger was something nice too, he needed all the strength and skill that he could get, he didn't know what he'd face, or what obstacles he would overcome, but he damn well knew he'd need every ounce of strength that he could muster up.

Athren had kept dodging as the robot had kept up its attacks, they circled the room time and time again as the robot tried to hit its mark at least once. Though Athren simply wasn't going to let it happen, he was far too superior to this piece of machine to get it. Though he was going to change it up a little bit, he was craving going on the offensive but he didn't want to get to it quite yet, he wanted to build to it and play around some more, so instead of dodging all these attacks, he'd move towards blocking them all. It wouldn't be the most enjoyable routine but neither was dodging, at least it would provide him with a nice change of pace, even if that pace was limited.
He had finally found himself coming to a sliding stop on the floor, he had stood strong and tall against the gravity and awaited the robot to catch up to him, for a small room he had found that the robot really did have a hard time keeping up with him. Damn shame it was, but yet again he continued to tell himself that it was much better than nothing at all. When it had finally caught up and closed the small amount of space that Athren had left between the two, the robot would once again throw a solid fury of punches and kicks, aimed for precise locations on Athren's body, but the saiyan stood his ground and handled it perfectly.
Athren's arms had moved rapidly, intercepting every single punch that had come his way. He either allowed his palm to meet the full force of the punch or used his forearms to redirect them so they wouldn't hit their marks. His arms had moved fast enough to intercept every single kick that was aimed above his waistline and anything lower would have been blocked with his own legs. Athren stayed there and in the moment, blocking everything coming his way with absolutely no issue. Though it was basic, he was kind of having fun with the simple change up of events. If he was being honest with himself, evading and dodging had gotten rather stale quickly.
He was well aware that blocking for a long period of time would get stale fast as well, there really wasn't a challenge given that his opponent wasn't a real opponent at all, just a piece of technology designed to give a fighter something else to train against, to learn again. The robot might have been perfect for his kids but for him? Entertainment wouldn't last long. He would much rather have a real fighter capable of keeping up with him but that option simply wasn't there for him right now, he had to make do with what he got, and though the travel to Yardrat wasn't going to be one of the longest ones, it was indeed a boring one. Athren kept up the blocking without missing a single beat, the pace was very slow and easy to keep up with. Though under the weight of the gravity, he was in fact working up a sweat. If anything, the combination of the gravity and his super heavy weights had been pressing him harder than the training dummy ever could.
He would continue to play this game for a short period of time, blocking getting stale really quickly. At least with dodging and evading he would find himself moving around the room, avoiding blows however which way he wanted to but blocking? Well, that was just standing there, there wasn't anything fun or interesting about it, at least when the attacks had been so basic. There wasn't a challenge, there wasn't any elegance within it and there wasn't much of a choice with how one wanted to do so. He knew he couldn't do this for much longer, it just didn't captivate him or motivate him, the struggle against the gravity itself was a far more greater challenge than blocking was.
After what had felt like a few long minutes, Athren had finally decided to swap it up and go into an offensive barrage of his own, this time pressing the robot that had been attacking him the whole time. The robot was currently in one of its sparring programs, it was meant to attack and defend as necessary. Athren would begin to throw punches and kicks at the metal opponent at a slow enough speed that it could match him, it's arms and legs moving appropriately to intercept all of Athren's attacks. This was now the dynamic for a short little bit, Athren kept attacking the robot and it would keep defending, though it would evade when possible and force Athren to chase it, that didn't happen often. It was a very stale sparring session, almost comparable to two children playing in a field and chasing each other around.
Catching up to it once more with ease, Athren's right fist collided with it's head and spun around, and slammed his left foot into it's chest. The robot simple took the blow and slid back to a stop. Athren took this moment to breath, the gravity being the only part about this that was putting a strain on him, making him work and making him feel like this was even worth it. "Pause training" Athren said aloud as the computer registered his request. The robot had immediately shut down and went limp where it stood.
It didn't take long for this whole situation to get stale, he could only fight something so weak for so long. As entertaining it was when he started, it just couldn't hold or keep his attention, he needed more from this. Even though it was still offline, the training dummy would provide him with a target to smack with a Nova punch. Though he'd still keep it suppressed in order to keep the dummy in one piece. "Make the dummy stationary." Athren requested as its metal feet magnetized to the floor to provide him with a solid and sturdy target, one that wouldn't move upon impact. Its joints locked into place too, ensuring that it was as solid as a rock. Athren really couldn't afford punching this thing through his ship, after all he was in the middle of space and that just wasn't a good scenario. Now that he caught his breath and the dummy was locked into place, it was time for him to move on to something else. It was time to upgrade his signature Nova Punch technique, he'd just need to keep it nice and light for now.

The Nova Punch was the very first technique Athren had ever taught himself and it came by from very simple reasoning. Even though he was just a boy when he had developed the technique, he knew he had a gift and a passion for close-quarters combat. He absolutely loved exchanging blows with an opponent. The style had fit him, it drove him, it was the way he liked to fight. Though he had a ranged technique, it never really was something that he liked to use, he always preferred putting pressure on his opponent with his fists and trying to overpower them with overwhelming strength. With that in mind, Athren had wanted a technique that fits that style and would deal devastating damage with a single punch, that's how it came around. Though Athren had to admit, it was quite odd that he hadn't evolved it further throughout the years, he had lots of time to do so and every single opportunity a saiyan would require. He had kept it at its most basic form, never improving it and making it more useful throughout all his years.
It was better late than never, for his very first technique ever made was about to go through a severe upgrade. Not only did he want it to pack more of a punch, but he wanted to have an explosive option to finish it off with. Something BIG, something HUGE. Of course, he couldn't practice that in the ship, but he knew that if he put enough power into it, he'd get the end result he was looking for. Here and on the ship, the biggest thing he could do to improve it and increase its power output and the time it took to prepare it, which wasn't long to begin with.
Athren stood there glaring over at the training dummy, he was once again rather excited. The moment had made him feel like a kid again on planet Vegeta, preparing a technique to face off against his rivals at the time. Nothing mattered but himself and what he was capable of, the desire to be better and stronger, to overcome everything that stood in his way with a powerful punch, the memories, the feelings, they had all come rushing back to him. It was almost like he was there, back in the day on Vegeta. As Athren stood there he lifted his right fist and clenched it tightly, the glow of his orange aura surrounding it fiercely. Expanding, flaring brightly as it reflected from his ocean blue eyes.
The technique itself wasn't advanced by any means, it was one of the simplest things somebody could create but it more often than not did it's job. Athren couldn't even count the number of times this technique had managed to get him out of a tough situation, it was a technique that he could use instantly, there wasn't any prep time and he could do it during a barrage of fists, though it did have limited uses. It wasn't very expansive or functional, it didn't provide any extra abilities and strategies, it was still just a punch at it's core. It's the brightest feature was that it was satisfying to cause massive amounts of damage with it.
As Athren kept looking at his fist he put more and more power into it, more than he ever had before and it was already something else entirely. The glow from his energy was even brighter, flaring more aggressively than it ever had. It couldn't help but force a smirk on the saiyan's face, this had been a long time coming and it was almost a shame that this technique didn't get more love sooner. It was his old faithful, a technique that was with him before he really even knew how to fight. He had carried it a long way and in a way, it too carried him to things. It carried him to live another day, to victories, to glory. Now that his Nova punch was evolved and ready, it was time to make it strike.
His target was the dummies chest, it's the strongest point. A place where it had minimal energy shields. Even though his current Nova Punch had more power in it than it ever had before, he was still holding himself back from using all that power, expelling some of the strength behind the technique. Athren would then launch himself forward and throw his right fist towards the robot's chest, slamming into it hard as the energy shields of the training dummy held itself together with a great amount of stress, barely managing to stay intact. Delivering the punch, Athren had been satisfied.
Though he was satisfied there was still room for it to improve and for it to be better, he could flare up even more power and energy into it, charge it faster and make it explosive! He really wanted this technique to be devastating, he wanted whoever it hit to really feel it, to be surprised by the amazing force and power behind it, he wanted them to be crushed by it's power. He was almost there too, the technique was so close to being done. Just a few more attempts and it would be. He was going to be counting on this technique in the near future, he knew he would. Whether it would be to eliminate the one who killed his crew and his kids, or somebody else. He knew it was going to play a key role in eliminating somebody and he HAD to make sure it would do it's job. There wasn't any room for error or slacking, he couldn't have this attack underpowered, he needed it at it's best, he needed himself to be at his best.
He couldn't risk this technique failing, he couldn't afford a loss, especially not now. It needed to be perfect and match his high standards, Athren wouldn't settle for anything but the best and most powerful form of the Nova Punch that he could manage to develop. It was only a matter of time, yet the anticipation for it was there, the excitement to finally follow through with his technique. He truly felt like that kid, the bright blue-eyed saiyan boy with nothing but his future ahead of him, nothing holding him back except himself and his imagination. It felt the same right now, he was no longer tied with responsibilities or a crew, no kids to take care of, everything was on him, there was nothing in his way. He was once again the only deciding factor in his next actions and there would be no consequences for the wrong choice, not again, not until his kids were back.

It was at this point Athren had leaped back once again to put some distance between him and the training dummy, he had wanted more than enough space to really wind up this punch, he'd have to hope that the robot's shields would be able to withhold even a little bit more power. If it didn't, well.. he was gambling with his life being on a small ship and all. His right fist raised once more and his ocean blue eyes gazed upon it again, the aura gathered around it flared up bigger and even larger than the strike he had done previously, the aura was almost aggressive in nature, as if somebody dumped gasoline all over it and lit it with a raging fire. Though as he watched the aggression within his ki, the memories of being a boy in those peaceful and careless times had faded and nothing put anger and rage had crept through his body.
The thought of him being a boy had shifted to that of Celric being a boy and learning techniques, he remember all the times he had spent with his son teaching him how to harness his ki, how to use it at it's maximum potential. Of course, Celric wouldn't come up with his own technique but mimic that of the Nova Punch.
With those memories now the ones that had consumed his mind, Athren's aura around the fist had begun to flare up even more aggressively than before. He didn't feel sad or heartbroken, he wasn't feeling the pain at this moment. He was feeling nothing but intense anger and rage and he was pumping all of that into his technique, powering up to new levels as he prepared to unleash it upon the dummy once more. Every ounce of rage he could harness was flowing into his fist. He was angry that he failed his faction, his children, he failed everybody because of a decision he made and he couldn't save them, he wasn't fast enough or strong enough to stop it, and he couldn't protect them even though he tried. It pissed him off deeply, enraged him more than ever before and all of that was being vented straight into the Nova Punch.
The aura was even brighter and flaring more rapidly than before, it had more power in it than Athren could have anticipated but it was ready to go. Without even thinking Athren lunged himself forward fueled with his rage and launched his Nova Punch at the training dummy just one more time, the fist colliding with it's center off mass as the collision between the fist and the energy shield lit up the gravity chamber. The energy shield began to flicker as it struggled to maintain itself, it was on the verge of breaking until it finally did with a loud shatter that echoed throughout the room and a bright blast that had sent Athren across the room and sliding to a stop as he laid back on the ground.
His ocean blue eyes would gaze up at the ceiling for all but a moment, quickly he sat himself up and looked at the dummy that was still fully together. "Well, it turns out you can handle more than I thought you could.. Huh?" Athren would mumble to himself with a faint chuckle as he got to his feet. Through that one single punch, he had managed to let all of the built-up anger out, though it was only a temporary release, the anger would be back eventually. It was something he'd carry around with him now, for a while until he permanently knew how to handle that, but until then he just had to be cautious with how he handled it which was a very difficult thing to do with anger. A lot of the time, anger had seemed to take a hold of somebody and push them towards the wrong decision. He'd need to figure that out fast, or he'd risk getting himself hurt.
Regardless, now that the anger had managed to withdraw from his system he had found himself rather grateful. He had finished what he had set out to do today, his Nova Punch technique was now at its highest form and its potential to do damage was much higher than it ever was. It was also really quick and easy to get it to max power and didn't require a lot of time to do so. Not only that, he had managed to have a little bit of fun in the gravity chamber too, and got himself a solid workout.
Now that it had all been done though, it was time to get himself a shower and some food. The weight of the gravity and the weights combined had really forced him to put work into this, even when the robot didn't. It was at this time that Athren would turn off both the training dummy and the Gravity Chamber and go do just that, his thoughts would lead him into what he was going to learn next. After seeing Zerori's techniques, or at least some of them he had gotten an idea for a slashing technique and it would be one to apply pressure to Quash when he had his sword out and Athren knew that fight was going to happen again.
He also thought about further defensive techniques, one that didn't require a dodge but more to face an attack head-on. Maybe an energy shield of some kind? The options had truly been endless and he just needed to figure out which path would suit him best. He was going to have a bunch of free time now that he was nearing Yardrat, so he figured it would be a good time to improve himself as best he could. It would be such a shame to waste time at this point, he had plenty he needed to get done, training, techniques, he needed to get stronger and go to Namek. Just days ago the plan was to retire and now? He was busier than he ever was before and it seemed like the list of things he needed to get done had just kept growing and growing. He knew it would probably take a few months for all of this to come together but maybe then, after it was all finished he could rest.
Though he'd only rest when his kids were brought back to life, when they were safe and away from him. He knew he couldn't be around them, he couldn't risk having them killed again because of his decisions. He couldn't fail like that twice and it was bluntly obvious, he wasn't a safe one to be around.
